What do our students get out of performing?

Burlesque performing. It’s not for everyone!

When students come up into our studio, sometimes getting onstage is the furthest thing on their mind.

There are so many motivators for people in getting into a burlesque class. From building body confidence, to finding some ‘me’ time, to learning to move with fun and grace.

Then there are the students that I find that come in basically racing to go and can’t wait to get on stage - whether it be a lifelong love of performing or they just have that innate sense of wanting to get out there.

And others find it’s a long, slow build.

I’d love to hand this post over and let you hear how our students have found their journey to performing.

Lady Powers

“Having had chronic illnesses for several years, I often feel like I’m constantly battling my body. Burlesque has giving me the opportunity to find a new way of working with my body, and as soon as those lights come on all of the battles fade into the background to allow space for the real me to shine through. Having the support of an amazing group, nailing well rehearsed routines and hearing the hollering of the crowd is the purest form of joy.”.

Elysia Mannix

“I love every second of performing. It is a rush to get up and dance with a group of amazing people. The camaraderie, feathers, glitter and fun are like nothing else.”

Claire Batchelor

“There is nothing that compares to the feeling of performing a number on stage that you’ve worked so hard on. Nailing a performance, the satisfaction of knowing you’re doing your best, and watching the audience respond to that with cheering and clapping, is incredible”

Julia Smith

“Performing for me is the cumulation of all the efforts I have made in class, but what makes it special is sharing that moment with an incredible group of women. Returning to Miss Kittys after an injury has made me appreciate the fun, friends and supportive environment even more.”

Cate Riley

“I have been on the best journey ever. Grace you truly are an icon. This has been the best thing ever. A whole group of passionate women. Taught by such an amazing teacher. I’ve made great friends and have been empowered. Everyone should try it.”

Sara Stevens

“Performing burly gave me a huge endorphin kick and boosted my confidence. The energy you feel from being in a room full of women, cheering on other women who are performing and feeling the same vulnerabilities and exhilaration as you are is such a high!”
