Ms Chevious returns to the stage!

You never know quite what you are going to get with Ms Chevious. Hitting the stage for the

second time, be prepared for things to get a little hot in the kitchen. With a smouldering eye

and a cheeky smile, Ms Chevious invites you to embrace your inner mischief and join her on

a journey that will leave you well and truly ready for desert and a cold shower.

Self described as ‘a bit loose’, Ms Chevious returns to the stage for our end of year Burlesque Showcase!

You may have seen Ms Chevious on stage last year as she took on her alter ego for the first time.

Ms Chevious “started performing in group classes about 2 years ago.”. She first has found that she has loved “the body confidence it has given me and it has set me on a journey of acceptance for where I’m at in my 40’s after having children. I love all the different styles of burlesque and the opportunity and excuse it gives you to be anyone you want”

Returning to the stage again, I was curious to see what drives Ms Chevious to delve further into a solo “I love pushing myself to do things out of my comfort zone, if there is a rule to be broken I will break it or a boundary to push I will push it”

Ms Chevious is also here to put to rest any preconceptions or judgements people might have. She stressed that it’s not important that you “have technical dance dance moves and ones that my 45 year old knees can’t cope with! In fact the burlesque artists I admire the most do their best work when they are swanning about the stage engaging with the audience. Burlesque can be whatever you want it to be. It’s the stage presence and confidence that makes the solo.”

I asked Ms Chevious what advice she would give to aspiring burlesque performers or anyone thinking about a solo debut.

“I would say to that if you have a creative idea or a persona that you want to explore, just do it. Bring it life. Settle on a name and a concept and just let your imagination run wild. I loved getting input on my name and character from my close friends – I think they enjoyed the creative process as much I did. It can definitely be a team effort in bringing a solo to stage.

Now for my quick questions for Ms Chevious!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in the lead up to your solo?

‘“Less is more’……I’m working on focusing less on feeling like I need to have fancy dance moves and leaning more into my character development and just having a good time.”

What are you most looking forward to about the performance?

I’m so looking forward to bringing this concept and character to life. It’s been a big year for me so it will be nice to put something out there that is telling a bit of my story and marking a particular and significant point in my life.
